Careful planning before your interview will: · Make you feel more prepared, and therefore more comfortable and confident within the interview. · Ensure that you minimise the risk of things going wrong and giving a bad impression of yourself. Some of these steps may seem self evident, but it is surprising how many times conscious good planning saves the day. So, some things to plan: · Prepare your clothes for the interview at least the day before. Think about what would be suitable for the culture of the organisation. But, if you are in any doubt, conservative business dress is best. · Plan your journey to the interview to arrive approximately 10 minutes beforehand. Ensure you allow extra time for delays, traffic jams etc. If you are very early, you can always find somewhere to have a cup of tea or coffee. This is an opportunity to prepare your state of mind and to review the job advert and job description. · Ensure you have any papers or documents you have decided, or been asked to take with you. These may include your driving licence, any proof of qualifications you need and copies of your CV. · Consider how you would answer any questions you might get asked. A great technique is to write your answers down, as the act of doing so helps you to structure your answers in a coherent way and to embed them in your mind. |
