Demonstrating that you know something about the organisation you are applying to has a very powerful effect on the interviewer. It shows that you care about whom you will be working for and it shows that you took the time to prepare yourself. Doing some careful research on the company or organisation will help you to create this impression. So carry out the following actions before attending the interview: · Review any information you can find on the company itself. The internet is a great tool for this as most organisations have a website that will tell you everything from their name to their last year’s financial results. · Try to gain an understanding of the business. What are its successes? What is its history? Who are the key personalities involved in it? What kind of issues is it currently facing? What is its culture like? Again the internet is a good source of information. Try searching news sites such as Times On-line or The FT On-line for articles about the company or organisation you are applying to. · Review the advertisement and other information on the job itself. It is important that you ensure that this is a job you really want. Remember, the interview is as much an opportunity for you to vet the job and the company or organisation as it is about them considering you as a prospective employee. · Think about any questions you still have over the job, or questions that you would like to ask about the organisation or company - you can ask these often at the end of the interview. |
